Welcome to Villefranche Sur Mer

Now you have made your booking and paid your deposit we aim to answer any other questions in order that  your arrival is as smooth and enjoyable as possible, especially if you are arriving from a long distance.  So please read this carefully and let me know if there is anything else you would like to ask me.....

Contact and organising your arrival with our manager

Our apartment manager will be in touch with you within at least one month before your arrival in Villefranche.

If for any reason you have not heard from the manager three weeks before your trip, then please contact me for a chase up.

Please make sure that you give the manager as much detail about your journey as possible. We require information on the route of your flight or train with time of arrival etc.

It is very important that you contact the manager as soon as you are aware of any delays to your journey, either before or on the day. If you are driving please try to time your journey to arrival at a reasonable hour.

Our change-over days are extremely busy and in order that nobody is waiting for unnecessary amounts of time we urge you to stick to the times arranged. This is not like a hotel service and if you miss your slot it may mean sitting around waiting for someone to get you into the apartment.

Please make sure you have the correct money with you to give the manager on arrival. He or she cannot release keys until this is paid in full. Again we do not want to delay you on your vacation.

Security Deposit
You will probably know by now that the security deposit can be left in any currency convenient to you as it is handed back on checkout.

We highly recommend that you order a taxi through our manager. Not only will he or she arrange for the driver to be there to meet you but you can be assured that you will not be overcharged. The driver will also be in touch with the manager to indicate that you are on the way. Again this helps with a smooth arrival.

Arrival and Departure times
Please note that check-in time is after 3pm and check-out time is strictly 10am. The manager will arrange to return your security deposit before you leave.

Where we can we do try to be flexible but this is not always possible.

Notes on carrying cash
Please take the greatest care with carrying cash and valuables with you especially on the train and on the bus. I was pick-pocketed myself a couple of years ago on the train and there are highly organised thieves working this route.

What to bring

The South of France has a reputation for being full of the rich and famous and lots of glamour.  Whereas it is true that you may see some glamour around and about and even one or two famous faces, like most places in the world these days, anything goes and the trend (even with the famous) is to be comfortably and casually dressed.  This is why we urge you to travel light.   The rule is take less and then less again.  I promise you you will not need a great deal and even if you do go out to one of the beautiful restaurants like Chevre D'or in Eze or the Colombe D'or in St Paul de Vence you will generally not need to dress up to the nines.  Smart casual is the name of the game.   Ladies please also be aware that stilleto heels are not practical in Villefranche as the streets are old and cobbled and steep.  Rubber soled shoes are best......  Make sure your sandals have rubber soles for safety.   Do, however, remember to bring a hat and to use sunscreen!
As you will not be staying in a hotel you will have a washing machine in the apartment and everything dries really quickly in this climate.
So we urge you to remember the motto - less is more!

Notes on waste removal
We would respectfully ask our guests to remove garbage from the apartment on a regular basis and before they vacate the apartment at the end of their stay. This will avoid annoying flies and midges appearing in the apartment.

For those in the old town there are bins on the way down towards the beach on the Quai which are convenient or there are also some in the central car park area.

Please note that all our apartments are strictly no smoking and our manager may have to make a charge if we find that smoking has taken place in any of our apartments....

Food Shopping in Villefranche

Villefranche has wonderful markets during the week and weekend and a regular organic market on a Friday.  To save you hauling shopping home you the supermarkets such as Carrefour in Mont Boron or the supermarket in Beaulieu will deliver. We have a great butcher in  Villefranche in Rue D'Eglise and I use the greengrocer on the steps down from the butcher for vegetables.  Don't be put off by his seemingly meagre stock as he has a store room (cave) at the back.  He will only offer you fresh good quality produce.

In Rue du Poilu there is a Casino supermarket which is handy for general shopping and a bakery.

There is a great Farmers market in Villefranche on Friday and Saturday morning.

There are two greengrocers in the old town and one opposite the tourist office.

Restaurant recommendations

Belle Etoile in Rue de May.   Les Garcons, La Cave Nature for wine cheese and charcuterie.  La Tavola all in Rue du Poilu.
